About
My name is Brian Theriault and I honour your call to want to heal and grow. I am blessed to have worked with so many people over the years and witness their personal growth and transformation. I consider counselling and therapy to be sacred work; a therapeutic space free of judgment and criticism. It is a space where you can explore your inner most fears and concerns and celebrate your successes and personal breakthroughs in a safe and accepting way. I will journey with you to those places that frighten or confuse you and help support you in finding a new sense of clarity, healing and being in the world. I offer openness, compassion and understanding and I am willing to walk alongside you on your journey of self-discovery.

Clinical Work Experience
I have over 23 years of clinical counselling experience in the areas of addictions, mental health, trauma and spiritual awakening and I have worked with many diverse and marginalized populations. I am a somatic experiencing practitioner (SEP) - a natural approach to healing trauma and I am also a certified sex addiction therapist (CSAT). For the last 3 years, I have been working as the clinical supervisor and counsellor at The University of Winnipeg - Student Counselling Services department. Previous to that, for 7 years, I was a supervisor at the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba (AFM) - Women’s and Family Services where I was responsible for supervising clinical staff, facilitating one-to-one and group counselling and developing, coordinating, and integrating new healthcare initiatives.
Additionally, I was the counsellor for the Rapid Access to Addictions Medicine clinic (RAAM) at the Crisis Response Centre. I have worked as a community mental health worker for the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA), as a service coordinator for the Program of Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) - Mental Health Program at WRHA, an addictions therapist for Alberta Health Services (formerly Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission - AADAC), and as a family therapist for the AFM.
I was also a lab instructor at The University of Lethbridge - Addictions Counselling program facilitating the Helping Relationships and Introduction to Counselling courses. I loved this experience because it gave me a chance to mentor developing addictions counsellors. I also have a love for writing and facilitating presentations. I have written a book, “Every Evening Comes the Moon: Awakening through the Darkness of the Separate Self (2022, Friesen Press), which describes aspects of spiritual awakening in the therapeutic process. I have presented clinical papers at conferences including the Canadian Counselling Association Conference (Exploring Ourselves: Discovering Identity) and I have articles published in peer reviewed academic journals including two clinical case study articles published in the International Journal of Mental Health and Addiction.
